MORE THAN WHAT YOU EAT - EATING FOR HEALTH AND WELLBEING

More than What you Eat is a community initiative that will bring together school age pupils with older people, through the medium of existing lunch clubs. We are currently working in partnership with Highland Council's Environmental Health division, Skye and Lochalsh Council for Voluntary Organisations (SLCVO), and Plockton and Portree High Schools.

We aim to improve the health and wellbeing of older people in Skye and Lochalsh, by raising awareness of the importance of nutritionally balanced meals and reducing the incidence of food borne illness.

Aims and Objectives

  • To reduce the risk of food borne illness amongst older people through safe handling and storage of high risk foods
  • To provide simple tools for older people, that will help them to choose, handle, store and cook food that is nutritious and safe.
  • To improve understanding of specific nutritional needs to protect health and maintain a good quality of life for older people.
  • To develop links with those who work with the elderly, providing information to reinforce the ‘key’ messages for food safety and nutrition.
