Small scale local food production in Skye has never been healthier as new outlets help connect the suppliers to their consumers but is it enough to change longstanding reliance on the major outlets? A recent study claims to have shown that if every resident in Skye and Lochalsh spent just £2.50 on local food instead of the supermarket alternative it would save thousands of food miles and also generate £1.35m for the local economy.

Skye and Lochalsh residents could generate an additional £1.35m every year for their local economy by spending as little as £2.50 a week on locally produced food, according to a study commissioned by HIE Skye and Wester Ross.
